The Existential Fear of SOMA
X/Twitter - MuntChunk
During our last venture down the existential rabbit hole, we focused on the game The Stanley Parable. A game that had a heavy emphasis on meta, and primarily used as a way to convey some incredibly deep and interesting themes. SOMA, while perhaps not being as funny or self-referential, arguably features a narrative that's just as interesting, just as profound, and to many, perhaps even enlightening.

Today, we'll be looking at a few games that I believe achieve th...

4 hour mgs3 vid? Instant click
The game draws parallels between Brandon Wan waking up and being reset, and the versions of us in dreams being reset after we wake up. The very start of the game has Simon in another recurring nightmare about Ashley, and not long after the Brandon Wan section of the game, is Simon put back in a dream state. This was intentional. The implication is that dreams we didn't remember are real versions of us that are abruptly aborted.
MGS2 belongs in universities. When I'm older, I'll be telling kids that if they haven't played MGS2, they're not media literate.
Dating in san adreeas would unlock perks like keeping your weapons and armor after death (the nurse lady) or being busted (the cop lady)
FWIW there are choices with Carl Semken and Amy Azarro. With Karl, if you go into the room just down the hall from his human body there's a lever in there, pulling that will shut off the power for the facility and turn the Karl robot off instead of leaving it screaming in pain. With Amy, you can leave her alive if you only pull and transfer one of the power cords keeping her alive.
inflict philosophical harm upon me more often
masterpiece
as for brandon, erasing his data only "kills" the version of him yet to be woken up. At this point, we already killed multiple versions of him. We don't just send him to sleep and wake him up again for another round of interrogation, we snuff out the version we just talked to and go back to an earlier version. Nier Automata also makes a huge point of the importance of just a few minutes of memories... or continuity... when the death of one of the characters means being reverted to their last update
Banger after banger, keep up the good work dude! Loving the content
I am pretty sure that a human is just a miserable little pile of secrets.
*smashes perfectly good wineglass
chunkiest video yet. thanks muntman
Excellent video, and this game does have one of my favorite stories in sci-fi ever, up there with homeworld and xenogears
i love your videos sm, your voice is soothing, the topics you speak about are interesting, just *chefs finger kiss* beautiful work 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 appreciate the work you do 🥰
Resident Evil retrospective part 2 soon?
Volgin is the biggest freak in MGS and it's both funny and scary. Well done for a horrible person in a game. Also, I always took Eva's overtly sexual behavior was what a female spy would do, and the game shows that through her interactions with several male characters.
Peak youtuber has returned
100th like on a Soma vid 🤌🤌
After watching your vids, I realized you always end each line in a falling intonation and going into vocal fry and dragging the last sound slightly. And now I can't unhear it,help
Kendrick is being and keeping real. It’s unapologetically refreshing and honest. He offers not only a true story of his story, and for millions of others that connect with him, he offers a giant connection with others in the world whom, whether they knew or didn’t know, also connect with his message. It’s brilliant. It’s kind. It’s beautifully stunning and we thank him for it. Respect. ✌️
I would say mind defines the body
And a comment for the almighty algorithm, because your channel rules.
Have you never used the engineer disguise during the C3 section? I always thought that part was a breeze because of the disguise lol
Soma is what they would take when hard times opened their eyes.
That's actually a good philosophical question
Wake up honey new Munt Chunk video just dropped
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who looked at it like 1.0-4.0 I'm happy someone else shared the same thought process as me on this

It really does take the existential part of _existential crisis_ too literally

Hello
Commenting to comment for the sake of commenting.
the finest wine in video games.
People didn't like Raiden from what I remember that was the only thing people didn't like from mgs2
My whole day😂🤝🏾😌
I’m so glad you understood why Sweet was frustrated with CJ when he got released from prison and all CJ was talking about was the fancy material things they now had. It was never about money or power for Sweet, it all came down to standing your ground against the abuse from the greedy and powerful. I’ve mostly heard people complain about how Sweet was too focused on the hood. I disagree. I think he was completely justified.
Fun facts: if you kill all the engineers the shagohod will start with less health. Also that ghost with the vulture during the sorrow fight spawned in because you ate a vulture that feasted on a dead guard. The ghost will say "you ate me" & you get a codec call about it too
The C3 part towards the end of the game...there is a camo to make you look like one of the workers. I don't think I have ever done that part without it so I never found placing the bombs that difficult lol
The yellow story line is a easter egg right from Psychonauts 1
On the issue of raikov i think its good he joins in on the joke. As an artist you shouldn't blindly defend everything you make. You should be able to take criticism and realize faults in your product. People hated raiden at the time for a reason whether its justified or not. Thats partly why hes given such a 180 in style by mgs 4.
gta 3 = goat
27:09 this is some deep shit.
Dead Rising and Silent Hill deaths have been hard on me.
Regarding the cure system: I’ve always taken the realistic approach of only entering the cure menu when I’m safe. Meaning, when there are no alerts and no boss battle going on. That alone improves this system by a LOT. I actually never had this issue of being annoyed cause the fights getting interrupted, because I always waited for the action to slow down. Maybe the game should’ve made it so you couldnt heal if you were on alert or on a fight. Or maybe if should keep running in the background while you heal.
For me its when I'm near death. I can play at not 100%
Your the kid who breaks down flow on instagram huh
